In mid-May 2007, McAfee sent Daniel on business to Bangalore, India. Daniel asked Ana if she would join him for a vacation to precede the business part of the trip. Thanks to accommodations made by Daniel’s Uncle Tony, we had arrangements made to visit Goa, Mumbai (Bombay), and Daniel’s father’s native village of Vasai during the week-long trip.
During our first evening, we took a walk along Candolim Beach in Goa. Midway through the walk, Daniel pulled a ring out of his pocket and asked Ana if she would marry him. Ana responded, “Yes, but only if you kneel.” Daniel obliged. As he bent down on his knee, the waves rushed up, pulling the sandal off of his foot out towards the ocean. Initially unfazed, Daniel proceeded to ask again “Ana, will you marry me?” She enthusiastically replied “Yes!”, and he slid the ring onto her finger. Dan then quickly jumped up and retrieved his sandal as it had drifted a few yards into the ocean, while Ana remained to admire her ring. That evening, we celebrated with Uncle Tony. A bigger celebration, complete with family and friends would follow later that week at Uncle Tony’s house in Vasai.
